Trees and Shrubs

A splended medium-sized shrub raised by the Hon. Lewis palmer in 1938, with single, broad- petalled flowers, 6cm across, milk-white with a zone of light cerise around the stamens.

philadelphus coronarius aureus © bron anddersonPerhaps the most widely grown of all the Philadelphus species. A tough dry tolerant species from southern Europe that has bright golden leaves that morph to a greenish-gold as summer approaches. Shelter foliage from late frosts and harsh afternoon sun. Holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit.

Philadelphus x lemoinei Silver ShowersA relatively new variety with pure white star-shaped flowers that smell of strawberries. A hardy selection that will grow in almost any soil type. Prefers sun or partial shade. A dense, small shrub with small, pointed leaves and profusely borne, single, fragrant flowers.

Philadelphus mexicanusYou’ll love the scent of this one. Philadelphus are prolific flowerers and have deliciously scented flowers. Very effective when used in borders or as a backdrop to roses.Mexico & Guatemala. A bushy deciduous shrub , that has mass flowers of perfumed white blossoms in Spring.A hardy bushy shrub reaching a minimum 1.5 metres , when established they benefit from pruning after flowering.

A strong-growing, errect-branched shrub to 3m, with flowers 2.5-3.5cm across, richly fragrant. A complex hybrid and still probably the best double-flowered cultivar.

Mexican Bush MallowThis shrub has large foliage similar to some abutilon .( Chinese Lantern ) .The flowers are 8-10cm across that look like hibiscus . Growing 3-4 metres tall and making a large rounded shrub over 2-3 metres wide ... Can handle full overhead sun, although benefits from being around company of other plants in a partly sheltered spot ... It is ok in some light frost .... A great quality evergreen.

physocarpus aurea

A compact, mounded cultivar easily grown in well drained soils. Best foliage colour occurs in full sun. Prune immediately after flowering for best results. Particularly noted for its attractive yellow foliage. 

Picrasma quassioidesSmall very rare multi stemmed tree with long bi pinnate leaves with red petioles turning bright yellow orange and scarlet in autumn. Picrasma is a pleasant hardy tree in the landscape softening its environment ... Native to northeast Pakistan east along the Himalaya and through southern , central & eastern China through to Taiwan & Japan.

A beautiful rare small tree, with unique leaves 15–40 cm long, pinnate, with 7–15 leaflets. Rarely more than 8-10 metres tall, often growing in a thicket of branches. Exquisite bright orange to red autumn colour. Introduced here by Arnold Teese

Origin: Temperate Southern Asia,  from N E Pakistan, through Himalaya to China, Japan and Taiwan

P formosa forrestiiThe hallmark of this one is the new bright red growth in spring. This fades to a pink, followed by cream and then finally becomes dark green. Large clusters of bell-shaped white flowers are useful for cut flower displays. ‘Formosa’ means beautiful in latin.
