Trees and Shrubs

Prunus serrula TibeticaTibetan Cherry. Wonderful Winter bark.

Prunus spinosaSpecies of Prunus, native to the U.K, this large deciduous shrub is known for the pungent berries it produces, named ‘Sloe Berries. The common name ‘Blackthorn’ lives up to its title due to its thorny nature and very dark bark. Attractive, dense clouds of soft white flowers feature in Early Spring , hiding the blackish branches.

Prunus subhirtella Autumnalis

A small deciduous tree up to 6 metres. Flowers pink in bud opening to white semi double.

Pseudocydonia sinensisCydonia sinensis. syn ; Pseudocydonia sinensis. False Chinese Quince. The best small tree that I could possibly recommend, year round features hardy to almost anything Australian gardens can throw at it. Very attractive pink blossom in late spring , in summer becoming large egg shaped yellow green edible fruit.  Excellent for conserves ,jellys or tasty pickled quinces great with pork dishes. The foliage turns electric reds to yellows in autumn and the bark on an older tree is equal to a birch or crepe myrtle. A lovely small tree with a rustic red outline to its foliage and exceedingly hardy and will fit into smaller yards. With all the Ornamental Pears being planted ( which have there place ) don’t forget about this stunning smaller tree that ticks every box.

Pseudopanax crassifoliusHoroeka, or lancewood. Long strappy , blade like leaves softening and widening a little on mature trees as per ones in photo.  A New Zealand native tree , of the family Araliaceae. Growing throughout New Zealand from ocean level up to 7-800 metres , Lancewood can reach a tree height of 15 metres. Great architectural trees in the landscape adding something unlike any other tree.

pseudopanax ferox © 2013(Toothed Lacewood) ‘A jagged gem of the forest.’ This kiwi native is easily recognised due to its unique appearance. The young trunk has characteristic swollen ridges and as the tree ages the branches begin to produce a bushy top.
