Trees and Shrubs

pachysandra terminalis variegata © 2013Superb evergreen groundcover for underplanting trees and shrubs. Slow form with leaves variegated creamy-white.

Origin: Japan

Pachysandra terminalis Compactussmaller leafed , more compact bushy form , excellent ground cover with masses of white small perfumed flower.

A dwarf shrub of remarkably distinct appearance, suitable for mild districts, and esspecially for maritime exposures, where it will take the full blast of sea winds. Leaves obovate, up to 15cm long, dark green, white-felted beneath. The large, yellow-centred, white aster-like flowers are carried singly on sniff, errect, white-tomentose stems during late summer.

parrotia persica ©

A deciduous tree closely related to the witch-hazel. Has a beautiful foliage display in addition to being low maintenance. In addition, the older branches and trunks offer colour interest in winter as well as tiny red flowers during the same period.

Origin: Iran

A large shrub of errect habit. Leaves rounded or broadly ovate, usually turning yellow in autumn. The flower clusters, reminiscent of cornus florida, being subtended by conspicuous white bracts, are produced during april and may and intermittently throughout summer.

Paulownia Saphire DragonBeautiful large upright purple flower spikes in Spring. A fast growing deciduous tree with a compatable root system for under planting smaller plants. Sapphire Dragon makes a great specimen or shade tree. One of the fastest trees too provide shade, I often recommend this tree in new bare landscapes where quick shelter is required to protect sensitive species.

Peumus boldusIn Chile, the yellowish-green fruit is eaten, its bark used in tanning, and its wood used for charcoal. Boldo leaves have been used by South American natives against diseases of the liver and for the treatment of gallstones.

Philadelphus Belle Etoile(Mock Orange) An arching deciduous shrub with a compact habit. Flowers profusely from late spring to early winter with the large white blooms having pale purple centres. Great for mixed garden borders.

Origin: Europe

A compact small deciduous shrub with relatively small leaves and double, creamy white flowers during the summer months. Grows in a moist but well drained soil. Well suited to a temperate woodland setting.

Origin: Europe

A great shrub with dark green leaves and upright sprays of double white flowers. Has a lovely orange blossom fragrance, hence the common name ‘Mock Orange.’ Grows to 3m in height and 1.5m in spread.  Frost and dry tolerant.
