A rare, small, evergreen tree in mild gardens. The wiry shoots are clothed with tiny, almost diamond-shaped,closely set, glabrous leaves, bluntly toothed in the upper half

nothofagus dombeyi © bron andersonAn evergreen tree native to Chile who leafy boughs have traditionally been used for thatching.A medium to large, evergreen tree of vigorous habit. Leaves 2.5-4cm long, doubly toothed, dark shining green. A fairly hardy tree that may lose its leaves in cold winters.

Origin: South America

notherfagus fusca © 2013(Red Beech) The New Zealand Red Beech which is used for timber, predominantly for flooring. Timber is exceptionally stable.  Grows to a medium-sized tree whose leaves have distinctive double-toothed lobes. 

Country of Origin: New Zealand.

Silver beech. A graceful, small to medium-sized, evergreen tree akin to N.cunninghamii. Leaves up to 12mm long, rotund-ovate, dark green, double-toothed. Hardy in southern countries if well-sited.

Australian beech. A small to medium-sized, evergreen tree with coparatively large, hard, leathery, dark green leaves, 4-8cm long, an attractive copper colour when young.

notherfagus obliqua © 2013(Roble or Roble Beech) A fast growing upright deciduous tree. Leaves have serrated margins and turn yellow/red in colour before dropping in autumn. Flowers are inconspicuous and the bright green fruit appears at the base of each leaf. Most commonly used as a large feature specimen.

nyssa sinensis © 2013Famed for its spectacular autumn colour.  A lovely small tree whose leaves emerge bronze in spring and darken to green over summer. Autumn is marked by bright shades of reds, oranges and yellows.

Origin: China

nyssa sylcatica © 2013(Tupelo) A slow growing species but displays nice form. Popular as a park specimen or for larger gardens. Spectacular autumn displays of yellows, reds and oranges. 

Origin: USA
