Trees and Shrubs

 Various common names, some of which are (Osage orange, hedge apple, horse apple, bois d'arc, bodark or bodock) Deciduous tree or shrub. Belongs to the Mulberry family, and is dioecious, producing male and female flowers on different plants. Will reach heights of 8 - 15 meters.

 

 

Mahonia aquafolium (Oregon Grape) Bushy evergreen shrub to 1.5m. Attractive shiny pinnate foliage often with red tints in winter. Yellow flowers in dense terminal racemes in Spring. Excellent Hedge in shade or sun. Tolerant of wide range of pH but not alkaline. Produces purpleish-black fruits which are tart in taste. Sometimes used to make jelly, and Oregon Grape juice is fermented to make wine.

Origin: Western North America

Oregon grape. A small shrub, valuable for underplanting or for game cover, in sun or shade. Leaves pinnate, polished green sometimes turning red in winter.

Mahonia bealei A medium-sized to large, winter flowering shrub related to M.japonica.

Mahonia japonicaDespite the name native to Taiwan. Absolutely beautifully Perfumed bright yellow masses of pendulous flowers. Lush evergreen deep green foliage. Bunches of deep blue- black berries hanging like grapes in spring. A fantastic landscape plant for semi and very deep shade. Makes a great specimen or evergreen screen.

mahonia lomariifolia © 2013 A large shrub for shade. Upright stems clothed in large leaves, divided into many leaflets. Beautiful erect terminal flower heads of deep yellow up to 25 cm long, followed by purplish-black berries.

A dwarf, suckering shrub,eventually making small colonies. Leaflets matt green; flowers in terminal clusters; bloomy-black berrries.

Mahonia X Wagneri Moseri A small upright plant which offers year round interest. Beautiful clusters of yellow flowers in spring followed by attractive deep blue berries. The foliage is pale green and deepens to a pale pink/red.
