Trees and Shrubs

A comparatively rare, erect-branched tree, to about 13m, so distinct that it is sometimes listed in a separate genus. Leaves maple like, deeply 3-lobed, the lobes themselves often sharply lobed and toothed, attractively tinted red in autumn.

Malus tschonoskiiTschonoskii Crab Apple ( named after a Japanese Botanist ) One of the best of the crab apples for autumn color ;purple orange & yellow tones . Features a strong, narrow growing pyramidal habit on an upright small deciduous tree ( 7 x 4 metres wide ) ... Foliage dark green leaves with a grey, felty underneath , its new growth is silvery green. The spring flowers are white , pink tinged. Hardy feature tree for limited width positions.

mayttenus boaria weeping © bron andersonA graceful tree with delicate weeping light green foliage. Often used as a street tree as it has little leaf drop and causes no problems with lifting footpaths. Best planted in a wind protected position.

A small tree or large shrub, best conservatory. Large, elegant, doubly pinnate leaves and small, fragrant, lilac flowers in panicles during summer.

melianthus majorAn evergreen shrub reaching 3m in height. Its lush blue/grey foliage has deeply serrated edges. The red flowers also create another point of interest. The leaves have an unpleasant smell when bruised, hence it is often referred to as the ‘touch-me-not’ plant.

Menziesia ciliicalyxThis is an incredible dwarf deciduous very Rare shrub. Ericaeae family like azalea and rhododendrons and blueberries, and enjoying morning sun or woodland conditions. Small pink bell flowers that hang in beautiful clusters beneath the foliage. They don't like hot or dry and require good drainage, but are well worth the trouble.

Meryta sinclairii PukaMertya or Puka or Pukanui a big leaved everygreen tree from New Zealand. Growing to about 8 Meters tall, Grows best in Full Sun in a Sheltered Spot away from high winds.  

Mespilus germanicaA small, thorny, picturesque, wide-spreading tree rivalling the black mulberry as an isolated specimen for an architechtural feature.
