A comparatively rare, erect-branched tree, to about 13m, so distinct that it is sometimes listed in a separate genus. Leaves maple like, deeply 3-lobed, the lobes themselves often sharply lobed and toothed, attractively tinted red in autumn.
Tschonoskii Crab Apple ( named after a Japanese Botanist ) One of the best of the crab apples for autumn color ;purple orange & yellow tones . Features a strong, narrow growing pyramidal habit on an upright small deciduous tree ( 7 x 4 metres wide ) ... Foliage dark green leaves with a grey, felty underneath , its new growth is silvery green. The spring flowers are white , pink tinged. Hardy feature tree for limited width positions.
