Commonly known as the Algerian Oak. A large deciduous/semi evergreen tree with a broad, spreading canopy. Foliage turns yellow to brown in autumn. Grows to a height of 20m. Used in park and street plantings as they are an excellent shade tree.
Origin: Southern Europe and Northern Africa
A native to the Caucasus and Alborz mountains of Iran, similar in appearance to the closely related Turkey Oak. A fast-growing deciduous tree , a closed rounded crown making it look squat in habit . Young twigs are covered with grey felt-like hairs but later become smooth. Central Asia.
Ultimately can reach a round headed tree of 15-20 metres, generally a smaller tree than more common tree species oak ... Known as Korean oak, Japanese emperor oak, also daimyo oak (Japanese: カシワ or 柏, kashiwa; simplified Chinese: 柞栎; traditional Chinese: 柞櫟; pinyin: zuòlì; Korean: 떡갈나무, tteokgalnamu). Endemic of Japan, Korea and China. The name translated as "sweet oak". The leaves are notably larger than for most Oak species and color extraordinarily red tones. A neat specimen tree where space doesn’t allow for larger oak species.
Blue oak. A small, californian tree or large shrub with oblong, occasionally lobed leaves, sea-green above, paler beaneath.
Gamble oak. A small tree or large shrub, with leathery, obovate, deeply lobed,glossy leaves. Slow growing.
A widely used landscape tree. In Australia, plantings date back to 1900 onwards. Its common name Holly Oak refers to the bristle tipped leaves that are the size and shape of European Holly. Grows well in the climates of Melbourne and Adelaide. Very slow growth rate.
