Tree with tiered branches.A tree 20-30m tall with conical crown,becoming tiered or umbrella-shaped with age.It is native to lebanon,Syria and Turkey,and grows at an altitude of 1,300-3,00m.The ascending branches become horizontal with age.The needles are 4-sided,stiff and dark green,1.5-3.5cm long,20-35 in whorls.The pollen-cones are 3-5cm long.The immature cones are green,ripening to grey-brown with purplish edges to the seed-scales,barrel-shaped,solitary and errect,8-10x4-6cm.Hardiness zone 6-9.
