A very slow growing form of tetraptera. Specimens in the Christchurch Botanic Gardens are only 2.5m tall after 30 years in the ground. Tetraptera means having four wings referring to the flowers. Golden yellow flowers can be up to 6cm long and start to appear in early spring.

Rowan or Mountain Ash. A small hardy deciduous tree mass flowering small white-yellow blossoms in summer followed by red fruits in autumn. The pinnate foliage is very appealing and red autumn tones are stunning. Famous in medicinal folklore , fodder for livestock and desirable in wood turning. It is more commonly used for its hardy and attractive ornamental uses today.

A handsome, medium-sized to large tree, eventually developing a broad, rounded head. The mature leaves are large, about 15cm long by a much across, and remarkably rounded, green above, white-tomentose beneath. Fruit apple-shaped, russet-brown.

This variety has huge leaves and is beautiful when lit from underneath. A winner of the Award of Garden Merit in 2002 it is sometimes classified as Sorbus thibetica John Mitchell. A small tree with a rounded habit and dark green leaves with white undersides. A great tree to provide contrast in a garden environment and it thrives on most free draining soils. Grows to 7-10m

An outstanding, small tree up to 9m or more high, with an errect, compact head of branches. Leaves composed of 15-19, narrowly oblong, sharply toothed leaflets, turning to shades of red, orange, copper and purple in autumn.

A large evergreen shrub from South Africa. Also makes a good houseplant, tolerating cool, shady conditions. Large leaves are accompanied by white cup-shaped flowers in spring and summer. A vigorous grower.
