Magnolia

Magnoila wadas memory‘Wada's Memory’ is columnar in habit whilst young, however widens as the tree matures. A dense crown and coarse texture make this plant a popular specimen tree or street planting. Large, fragrant white flowers appear before the foliage in spring, giving way to pink fruits containing bright red seeds.

Magnolia Lilliflora Holland Red

Forms a bushy shrub to approximately 3m in height. Masses of deep purple flowers are produced during spring. Great for smaller gardens.

magnolia liliflora nigraThis medium sized deciduous shrub grows from 3 to 4.5 metres high with an erect and branching stem. The mid to dark green leaves have a downy underside and taper to a point. Large, fragrant flowers are dark wine - purple flowers in colour with pale purple insides. Blooms have a delightful lemon scent. This variety is frost resistant but drought tender and grows best in subtropical to temperate conditions.

Magnolia macrophyllaCommonly called big-leaf magnolia or the large leafed cucumber tree, Magnolia macrophylla is noted for its huge leaves (to 30 inches long). This unusual tree is rarely found in the wild, being limited mainly to a few rich wooded areas in river valleys and ravines in the southeastern United States. Flowers are white with rose-purple at the petal bases. Although quite large, the fragrant flowers are often located far off the ground and are not always easy to view. Flowers give way to cone-like fruits which mature to red in late summer.

Blooms are white, flushed mauve-pink but darker on the outside, and appear before the leaves. The pointed buds of Magnolia sargentiana var robusta are enclosed in leathery bracts which are covered with silky hairs. A spectacular feature tree.
