An errect-branched form of conical or broadly columnar habit.

A slow growing globose plant with distincly blue-green needles spreading irregularly in various direction.Annual growth 5-10cm.Found as a witches'broom by William Gotelli in Macopin,New Jersy,USA.

The only pine native to Britan. A familiar tree usually seen as a large, tall-stemmed and,occasionally, a low, picturesque, spreading tree.It is easily recognized by its characteristic and attractive, reddish young bark.Leaves in pairs,3-10cm long, twisted, grey-green or blue green. Cones to 7.5cm long, on short stalks.W Europe to NE Asia. A commonly planted tree which combines beauty with utility. In the british Isles, truly wild stands of this species are only found in parts of N Scotland, but it once grew naturally throughout England and Wales.

A remarkable Scots pine, the shape of a Lombardy poplar.A strictly columnar plant with stiff, almost vertical,branches and coarse blue-green needles.In ten years 3.5-0.8m.First recorded by carriere(1855).Possibly more than one clone is in cultivation as columnar seedlings frequently occur.

(syn. 'Edwin Hillier') A broadly pyramidal tree with long silvery blue curved needles and reddish stems.In ten years 2.5x1.5m.Selected by Edwin Hillier,UK in 1920.

A slow-growing, small tree with striking golden yellow leaves in winter.A small,slow-growing tree with dull green new growth that turns golden yellow in winter.In ten years 2x1m.The name is based on forma aurea,described by Ottolander in Sieboldia(1876).This clone was established by Veitch in 1900.

Similar to 'Aurea' but smaller with brighter yellow foliage.A small,slow-growing,broadly pyramidal tree with good yellow winter foliage,dull yellow in summer.In ten years 1.5-2x1-1.5m.Originated before 1979 by R.S.Corley,UK.

Black pine. A distinct and splendid large tree with stout, twisted branches and silvery white scaly buds, like candles in spring.Leaves in pairs,7-18cm long,rigid and twisted. Cones to 6cm long, borne singly or in large clusters.The black pine is one of the most important timber trees in japan, where it often occurs by the seashore. In the British Isles it is useful as a windbreak in maritime areas for growing in poor sandy soils.Japan,South korea.

Resistant to harsh weather, can grow up to 40 metres under good conditions, but much smaller in sandy beaches.  The tallest of this species on recored is 66 meters, found at Japanese shrines. A very popular species due to its resilience and holds its own company.
