Trees and Shrubs

A slow growing evergreen shrub bearing ruffled white flowers. Leaves are narrower than Camellia sasanqua. Ideal in a partly shaded, moist, well drained soil.

Camellia japonica Night Rider A hybrid between Camellia 'Ruby Bells' and C. japonica 'Kuro-tsubaki'. Night rider is a slow growing evergreen shrub. Dark green foliage and almost black undersides toward bronze-red new growth. Flowering waxy dark small red semi-double flowers. Part-Shade. Flowering late winter and early spring. Growing to 2 metres tall

camellia japonica unryu © 2013(Zig Zag Camellia) This variety has an unusual zig-zag branching pattern. ‘Unryu’ means ‘dragon in the clouds’ as the Japanese thought it looks like a dragon climbing towards the sky.  Bears small crimson flowers with deep veining. Sun to part shade.

Camellia japonicum Reigyoku Gold Variegated leaved form, with single red flowers and yellow stamens. Reigyoku is a small bush rarely exceeding 2 metres. A showy evergreen giving year round contrast.Sun to part shade.

Camellia lutchuensisA spectacular ornamental shrub with small white flowers. It has a slightly weeping habit. Grows best in the semi-shade, in a slightly acidic, well drained soil. Best suited to cool temperate or temperate climates. Part sun to part shade.

Camellia oleiferaCamellia oleifera is very similar to Camellia Sasanqua. It is possible both species originated from a common ancestor. This species has been used by the Chinese for hundreds of years as a source of cooking oil. Many medium sized camellia seeds during spring and summer, and it is from these that the oil is extracted. The ‘tea-oil’ is a thin, clear liquid used for cooking and in manufacturing.Sun to part shade.
