(Purple Filbert)(Purple Filbert).Rich purple leaves ,they are larger and more richly purple if semi shaded. Hardy suckering species that will make a large shrub or small tree. I believe possibly a male form , although it is mostly planted independently of other corylus so maybe not being or giving pollination.
(Chinese quince) An attractive medium sized shrub with masses of pale pink blossom. These are followed by large pear-shaped golden fruits that are sometimes used to produce jams and jellies.
Origin: China
aka Umkolo. The fruits of the (Kei Apple) are juicy and look a bit like flattened apricots. The fruit is bright yellow / orange with the flesh a similar colour. Fruit can be used for a variety of desserts or often eaten fresh with just a sprinkle of sugar. This speciman is drought and salt tolernat and quite often is planted in a coastal habitat.
Origin: Key River, Southwest Africa.
(Kei Apple)Lovely evergreen fruit tree of considerable importance to local communities in southern Africa. Usually reaches 3/5m in height with a much-branched crown. Can be used as a border, screen or impenetrable hedge.Origin: South Africa
(Chinease Witch Hazel)Deciduous large shrub or small tree growing to 8m tall.The flowers are yellow, often with a red base, with four ribbon-shaped petals 15 mm (0.59 in) long and four short stamens, and grow in clusters; flowering is in late winter to early spring on the bare branches. The fruit is a hard woody capsule 12 mm (0.47 in) long, which splits explosively at the apex at maturity one year after pollination, ejecting the two shiny black seeds from the parent plant.
